Together
we achieve greatness

Who we are?

The Lanka Lions Cricket Club is a non-profit organization originally established as Canberra Lions in 1988 by a group of passionate Sri Lankan-Australians who wanted to form a cricket club carrying Sri Lankan identity at a time Sri Lankan national team was trying to establish itself as a competitive force in international cricket. Since then, the Lions have been a key member of the Canberra City and Suburban Cricket family for the last 32 years fielding teams in various grades and winning the competition quite a few times.

While the club provided a platform for Sri Lankans living in Canberra, it was always open for the wider Canberra community to share the spirit of cricket and enjoy the game of cricket together. That has been a key feature for Lions providing members the opportunity to forge new friendships and better integration with various communities. That also allows Lions of non-Sri Lankan backgrounds to enjoy various club social events and, in most cases, enjoy some authentic Sri Lanka curries.

Lions started one team when it started in 1988 and then fielded 2 teams in 1990-ies. In 2009 Lions expanded its presence to three teams and has been growing since then. Current Lions club fields 5 teams starting from first grade and in various Canberra City and Suburban competition grades. One of the key features of Lions is to maintain a first-grade team in the competition for most of the time throughout 32 years of journey.
